Suryansh Hedge’s Explosive Cameo Guides Mumbai to Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy Victory

Suryansh Shedge played a match-winning cameo in Mumbai’s Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy final victory against Madhya Pradesh, finishing unbeaten on 36 off 15 balls. He formed an unbroken 51-run stand with Atharva Ankolekar, who hit the winning six. Shedge’s performance was highlighted by his aggressive strokeplay, including three fours and three sixes. One of the most impressive shots came in the 17th over when he casually swiped Venkatesh Iyer over the extended leg for a six, a shot that would have made Suryakumar Yadav proud. This performance adds to his recent T20 form, with knocks of 30* (8 balls), 36* (12 balls), and 36* (15 balls) in three of his last four innings.

The chase was set up by Suryakumar Yadav and Ajinkya Rahane, who steered Mumbai through a tricky phase after they were 47 for 2 in the fifth over. Rahane, who finished the tournament as the highest run-scorer, was fortunate when he edged the last ball of the powerplay to mid-off, where Rajat Patidar dived but couldn’t hold onto the catch. The partnership between Suryakumar and Rahane steadied the innings, adding 52 runs for the third wicket.

With 110 more runs required from 69 balls, Suryakumar accelerated the chase. He played a couple of stunning shots, scooping and lofting Rahul Batham for four and six, before hitting two more sixes in the 13th over. Rahane contributed with a reverse sweep and pull for four before being dismissed for 37 in the 12th over. Mumbai, however, continued their chase with confidence, and Shedge’s explosive finish helped seal their second Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy title.

Patidar’s Heroics Fall Short as Shedge, Ankolekar Seal Mumbai’s Victory

Shivam Shukla gave Madhya Pradesh hope by dismissing Suryakumar Yadav for 48, caught at short fine leg. With Mumbai needing 46 runs from the final 32 balls, the match still hangs in the balance. However, Shedge and Atharva Ankolekar had other plans. The two batsmen remained calm under pressure, ensuring the victory with a composed and explosive partnership, guiding Mumbai to their second Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy title.

Earlier, Madhya Pradesh’s hopes rested on captain Rajat Patidar, who was in superb form. Having already been a key figure in the tournament, Patidar continued his fine run with an unbeaten 81 off 40 balls. Despite MP being 86 for 5 at the start of the 13th over, Patidar played an exceptional innings, scoring 80 runs in the last seven overs and keeping MP’s hopes alive. His shots included pulls, lofts, uppercuts, slices, and swipes that thrilled the Chinnaswamy crowd as he struck six fours and six sixes.

Patidar’s fearless hitting was a sight to behold, as he accelerated after a slow start, where he had only managed nine runs from the first nine deliveries. His powerful shots crashed into the stands, and he gave MP a fighting chance. But despite his heroics, Patidar’s efforts ultimately fell short. Mumbai’s solid chase secured the victory, ensuring the trophy remained in their hands.
