Kamlesh Nagarkoti Signs with Chennai Super Kings for IPL 2025 After Difficult 2024 Season

Kamlesh Nagarkoti, who went unsold in the IPL 2024 mini-auction, has been recruited by Chennai Super Kings (CSK) for the IPL 2025 season at his base price of INR 30 lakh. The 24-year-old fast bowler first made headlines during the 2018 U-19 World Cup, where his impressive pace consistently exceeded 145 kph and helped India secure the title. This led to his acquisition by Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the 2018 IPL auction for INR 3.20 crore.

However, Nagarkoti’s career has been marred by injuries, limiting him to just 12 IPL matches and five wickets, with his last appearance in March 2022 for Delhi Capitals. Now, with CSK, he looks forward to reviving his career and sharing the spotlight with cricket legend MS Dhoni.

Nagarkoti Excited to Join CSK and Play with MS Dhoni, Aiming for IPL 2025 Success

“I have been waiting for this for a long time. I am grateful that I have got an opportunity once again. I am back again where I always wanted to be. I am eager to join CSK, and that’s because of Mahendra Singh Dhoni sir. It is every cricketer’s dream to play alongside or under such a legend of the game,” says Nagarkoti told The Times of India.

Kamlesh Nagarkoti has expressed confidence in his improved fitness and is eager to make an impact with Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in IPL 2025. The Barmer-born bowler shared his excitement about playing alongside cricket icon MS Dhoni and aims to contribute to CSK’s pursuit of a record sixth IPL title.

“I never imagined that I would ever be able to play with him. I have worked a lot on my fitness, and I am injury-free now. The injuries troubled me for years and kept me out of action. Sometimes, you get frustrated, annoyed, and upset, but I kept telling myself that I would make a comeback. I am in a happy space now. CSK are five-time champions. My next aim is to become a part of the title-winning CSK side this time and help them win their record sixth title. I am really excited to meet Dhoni sir. I am looking forward to a successful and triumphant season with CSK this time,” he added.

‘You’ll call me Dr. Venkatesh Iyer next time’ – KKR Star Venkatesh Iyer Pursues PhD in Finance After MB

“Education will stay with you till you die, a cricketer cannot play till 60. You have to understand that there is a shelf life,” Venkatesh said.

Madhya Pradesh all-rounder Venkatesh Iyer made history during the IPL 2025 mega auction in Jeddah, securing a record INR 23.75 crore deal with Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). This makes Iyer the most expensive Indian all-rounder and the fourth-highest-paid player in IPL history. After being released by KKR following their title win, he rejoined the franchise following an intense bidding battle involving Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), and KKR, with RCB and KKR pushing the price to new heights.

Beyond cricket, the southpaw is committed to his education. Hailing from an orthodox middle-class family, Iyer is pursuing a PhD in finance, emphasizing the importance of academics in developing critical thinking skills for better decision-making both on and off the field.

“I come from an orthodox family, so it is tough to convince middle-class parents that I will pursue only cricket. But it was the other way around. I was big on academics. My parents wanted me to do well in the game as well. If a new guy walks into the MP (Madhya Pradesh) team, the first thing I ask him is ‘padhai kar rahe ho ki nahi?’ (are you studying or not?). Education will stay with you till you die, a cricketer cannot play till 60. You have to understand that there is a shelf life. After that, if you want to really excel in life, you have to be educated. Academics can give me the perfect switch-off from the game,” he told the Indian Express.

Want cricketers to educate themselves: Venkatesh Iyer

Venkatesh Iyer, who completed his BCom and MBA from Indore’s DAVV University and the Institute of Management Studies, emphasizes the importance of education for cricketers. The all-rounder believes players should focus not only on cricketing skills but also on general knowledge. Iyer encourages his colleagues to complete their education, stressing that while a cricket career may be short, the opportunities for life after it are vast.

“I don’t want to be thinking of the game all the time, it adds pressure. If I can do two things at the same time, I will. Being an educated person, helps me make better decisions on the field as well. There will be a situation when it won’t be just about the skill but whether you can make a better decision. I want cricketers to educate themselves not just with cricketing knowledge, but general knowledge as well. If you can complete your graduation or post-graduation, you definitely should. I am pursuing my PhD (finance) now. You will be interviewing me as Dr Venkatesh Iyer next time,” he added.
