Edwards’ Ten-Wicket Haul Powers NSW to Thrilling Triumph Over WA

Jack Edwards delivered a match-winning performance in the Sheffield Shield, securing New South Wales (NSW) a dramatic victory over Western Australia (WA) with just 13 balls to spare. Edwards took 5 for 41 in each innings, completing his second five-wicket haul on the final day to seal an innings-and-68-run triumph at the SCG.

Despite the seemingly comfortable margin, the match was far from straightforward. WA entered the final session with six wickets in hand and appeared on course for a draw. Edwards, however, sparked a collapse of 4 for 7, leaving WA teetering with just two wickets and 21 overs to survive. His dismissal of Brody Couch, caught behind with 9.1 overs left, set the stage for NSW’s push. Lance Morris and Corey Rocchiccioli battled valiantly but fell short, handing NSW a hard-fought victory.

Edwards’ Late Heroics Secure Dramatic Victory for NSW

Western Australia’s tail-enders, Lance Morris and Corey Rocchiccioli, appeared poised to pull off a remarkable escape before Rocchiccioli edged Jack Edwards to second slip just before 6 PM on the final day, sealing the victory for New South Wales (NSW).

The win marked a near-perfect performance for Edwards, who excelled both as captain and seamer. He claimed identical figures of 5 for 41 in both innings, showcasing his leadership and bowling prowess to guide NSW to a thrilling Sheffield Shield triumph.

“Great win, especially with the rain taking time out of the game [on day two],” Edwards said. “I feel like I’ve been bowling well this year, and it’s nice to get the reward for it.

“It was just about sticking at it. I thought we just had to make them play a bit more. When we did that, we were creating chances.”

New South Wales (NSW) secured a dramatic Sheffield Shield victory over Western Australia (WA) after a day filled with gripping action. Kurtis Patterson’s unbeaten 167 had allowed NSW to declare at 463 for 9 overnight, establishing a 252-run lead. On the final day, wickets fell in bursts as Jackson Bird struck early, dismissing Sam Whiteman and Jayden Goodwin to surpass 500 first-class wickets.

In the middle session, Tanveer Sangha claimed the vital scalp of Cameron Bancroft, trapping him lbw on 48. Bancroft, who seemed WA’s best hope of salvaging a draw, was visibly frustrated as he departed. Sangha also dismissed Hilton Cartwright, leaving WA under pressure. Despite spending most of the day threatening to hold on, WA succumbed to Jack Edwards’ late heroics. Edwards’ second five-wicket haul of the match clinched the win for NSW, who jumped from last to third on the ladder heading into the BBL break, while WA slipped to fourth.
